Charles Arthur Jensvold

June 25, 1925 — November 1, 2004

Art Jensvold, 79, was born June 25, 1925 in Tacoma, Washington, to Gertrude Keeney Jensvold and Charles Arthur Jensvold. Art is survived by Elaine, his wife for 55 years: sons Daniel and Charles of Del Mar, California and Scot of Aurora, Colorado; daughter Karin Jensvold (Scott) Rumage of Seattle, Washington and two granddaughters Kirstin and Thea Jensvold-Rumage. He is also survived by brothers, Robert (Jean) Jensvold of Camas Washington, Martin (Loraine) Fraley of Carpenteria, California, and William (Ruth) Fraley of Portland Oregon; sisters, Charleen Wilbur and June (Leonard) Johnson of Eugene, Oregon. He was preceded in death by brother Donald Jensvold and sister Betty McMeans. He was a pilot in the U. S. Army Air Corps in WW II, and a 1949 graduate of Oregon State University with a later advanced degree from Stanford University. A former Marketing executive of Chevron, he worked in Portland, San Francisco, Seattle, Phoenix and Denver. After retirement, he was involved in restoration and building projects in California and Colorado. A Memorial Service was held Saturday, Nov. 6, 2004, at Faith Presbyterian Church, 11373 E. Alameda Ave., Aurora, Colorado 80012. A Private Interment will be held at a later date. KARIN'S THOUGHTS I always enjoyed hanging around Dad while he worked on his home projects that allowed interesting views into the inner workings of our home, or our car, or some otherwise mundane appliance. These projects would have a beginning of discovery, a middle of perseverance (usually supported by a hearty lunch supplied by Mom), and more often than not a satisfying successful ending. Who wouldn't want to assist in such endeavors? Sorry, Mom, but all the household cleaning and cooking our family of six required never held the same allure. Dad always seemed to undertake these household projects with care and patience, and an ever-present cup of reheated black coffee. Not just his own house shows the marks of his skills. When asked, he would give generously, and our house has many examples of his craftsmanship. This competency inspired confidence in his son-in-law Scott, who saw him as a special father figure after his own father passed away. To his granddaughters he was always their patient and kind Papa, who might invite them outside to learn the fine points of Bocce ball, or allow them to try out a real corn shucker in the garage, or walk them up to the pool for a swim. Although his childhood had many hard challenges, I never heard Dad say a bitter word about these times. Instead, He would share amusing anecdotes and stories of adventure that would more often that not include one or more of his beloved sisters and brothers. A TRIBUTE TO ART I'm sure many references will be made to Art's easy manner and kind spirit. I would like to single out a characteristic that was special to me. It was the attention he paid to Elaine's and my Mother who lived in Beaverton, Oregon. She lived in an older house that begged for TLC. At almost every visit Art made notes of maintenenace needs and applied his energy, knowledge and his beloved tools to good use. Mom lived comfortably in that house until passsing on at age 86. Art had definite opinions but didn't shout them at you. He was both interested in your point of view as well as expressing his own. Art and Elaine left their footprints in several cities and states before coming to settle in Aurora. These stops were all enriching and added to their experiences and family of friends. We will miss him both for what he did and for what he was, a quiet and gentle soul. ~Wally Bowman, brother-in-law~
