Charles (Chuck) Allen Smith, 77 of Westminister, CO passed away January 17, 2011. He is survived by his wife of 53 years, Shirley; sons Steven Smith and Bradley (Denise) Smith;Â sisters Helen Landis and Eileen Rennerfeldt, grandchildren Kayla (Robert Holman) Smith, Jared (Olivia) Smith, Nicolas Smith and Megan Smith; great-grandchild Dyllin Georgia Smith. Preceded in death by his parents Andrew and Olga Smith, son David, sister Florence Lohse, daughter-in-law Georgia. Chuck was born in Alamo, ND on September 25, 1933. He was the youngest of 4 children. Raised in Alamo and graduated from Alamo High School in 1951 and attended the North Dakota State College of Science in Wahpeton, ND. He married Shirley Haugen on September 20th, 1957. The family moved to Denver, CO in 1959 with their two boys Steven Andrew and Bradley Carl. Their third son, David, was born in Colorado in 1965. He worked in the autobody and paint industry until he began teaching at Front Range Community College. He retired in 1996, after over 20 years of teaching. He had also briefly taught at Boulder Tech Education Center. At the age of 40, Chuck began skiing with his sons and spent many weekends skiing at Copper Mountain and other locations. His youngest son, David, was a competitive Alpine ski racer. Chuck loved working at his events doing whatever was necessary to ensure the events ran smoothly. He spent his retirement playing golf, wood-working, traveling, being a grandpa, and enjoying life with his family and many friends. Shirley and Chuck also spent time bicycling. Twice, during his retirement, with friends, they cycled the Katy Trail, beginning in Clinton, MO and ending in St. Louis, MO. Memorial Service, Friday, January 21st, 11 am, Cross of Christ Lutheran Church, 12099 Lowell Blvd., Broomfield.
