Cherie Scown Clabaugh

August 5, 1933 — July 14, 2024

Lakewood

Cherie Patricia Scown was born on August 5, 1933 in Casper, Wyoming, the oldest daughter to Pearl and Rawland Scown. She and her younger sister, Susan, grew up in Casper near family and friends. Cherie graduated from Natrona County High School and attended Casper Community College. She married Jim Clabaugh on August 31, 1958 and they moved to Colorado and both attended the University of Denver. Cherie graduated with a degree in Accounting and began her career in the banking and financial services industry, working for Jefferson Bank and Trust for 30 years. She and Jim purchased a house in Lakewood, Colorado where she lived and raised her family for more than 62 years.

Cherie and Jim had two children: David Richard and Diane Patricia. Cherie was very devoted and actively involved in her children’s lives. She was a dedicated volunteer at Westernaires, in support of Diane, and frequently fed and took care of their horse, Maverick. Cherie also became a motocross fan when her son David found his passion at 10 years old. She continued to support him as he became a professional racer and then moved on to his career as a motocross promoter and owner of Thunder Valley Motocross Park.

Cherie was also a proud grandmother to her three grandchildren, Ashley, Kyle, and Cortney and was fortunate to live nearby to be actively involved in their lives and activities. She was thrilled to recently become a great grandmother to Henry Charles.

Following her husband Jim’s death in 2007, Cherie continued participating in all the activities she loved. Cherie was an avid bowler and served as the secretary and bookkeeper of her local bowling league for over 40 years. She also loved to garden and had a special attachment to the raccoons and squirrels that frequently visited her home.

Cherie passed away peacefully on July 14, 2024 at her home in Lakewood, Colorado with her constant companion, Ginger, her cat, by her side.
