Cheryl LaVonne Vavra

April 7, 1979 — October 2, 2018

Cheryl LaVonne Vavra, 39, Aurora, passed away unexpectedly, Tuesday, October 2nd, 2018 at Parker Adventist Hospital. Cheryl was born in Minneapolis, Minnesota, on April 7, 1979 to LaVonne Malmberg Shmitka, Centennial, CO and the late Wayne Raymond Shmitka. Although born in Minnesota, Cheryl, spent most of her life in Aurora and graduated from Smoky Hill High School in 1997. Cheryl worked at Albertson's Grocery Store, Key Bank, American Family Insurance, and then went to work in 2006 at Aurora Association of Realtors. She began her work as the receptionist and membership secretary welcoming visitors and guest with her pleasant and warm smile. At the time of her passing she was the Education Director for AAR where she helped new Realtors obtain their licenses as the Education Director, she was the ""Front Line"" at the Association.

Beside her work life, Cheryl was a family person. She loved her husband and their children with all her heart. She was a caring daughter, daughter-in-law, sister and aunt. She hosted large family events at their home to make sure her family remained a tight knit group. In her younger years, Cheryl, was an avid gymnast and a member of a Junior Olympic Diving Team. Later in life she loved the outdoors and looked forward to camping, boating, sunsets, and hiking with family and friends. She also enjoyed playing pool, the game where she met her soulmate, Ben, and going to Denver Broncos and D.U. Hockey games. She was caring, fun loving, devoted and had the ability to make those around her always feel comfortable.

Cheryl's wish to be an eye and tissue donor was honored. Her gifts benefited many.

Cheryl leaves behind to cherish her memory her loving husband and best friend, Benjamin ""Ben"" Vavra, their children, Kyle Vavra and Kaitlyn ""Katie"" Vavra; her mother, LaVonne Shmitka; her siblings and their spouses, Michael and Cathy Jo Walden, Diane and Douglas Armstrong, Robert and Sherri Walden, Terrie Shmitka, Susan Walden and Gage Hunter, and Jared and Nicol Shmitka; her father-in-law and mother-in-law, Dean and Janice Vavra; mother-in-law and father-in-law, Susanne and Robert Holland; a sister-in-law, Ann Holland; her God Parents, Cheryl Stranahan and Daniel Countryman. Many aunts, uncles, nieces, including a great niece, nephews, cousins and special friends also survive.

The family invites Cheryl's friends to a visitation to share memories on Friday, October 12, 2018 from 12:00 PM till 2:00 PM in the Horan & McConaty Family Chapel, 11150 E. Dartmouth Ave., Aurora, CO 80014. A funeral service to honor Cheryl's life will follow at 2:00 PM in the funeral home chapel. A reception will follow at the Aurora Association of Realtors building, 14201 East Evans Drive, Aurora, CO 80014. It is recommended that you park at the Aurora Association Office building and carpool to Horan and McConaty due to the limited parking spaces available at that location.
