Chris Marinus Nielsen Jr.

August 21, 1932 — October 24, 2019

Chris Marinus Nielsen, Junior was born to Edith and Chris Nielsen, Sr. on August 21, 1932 in Dannevirke, Nebraska. Chris’ father died prior to his birth. Chris had seven brothers and sisters: Virgil Nielsen, Louie Nielsen, Marinus Nielsen, Earl Nielsen, Doris Haney, Erma Brittian and Eda Mae Jensen, all of which have preceded him in death.

After graduating from high school in Dannebrog, Nebraska, Chris joined the Navy and served from 1953-1957 and was in the reserves until 1961.

Chris married Beverly Allen on April 12, 1959 and had two children, Chris Marinus (Marilyn) Nielsen III and Ginger (Dave) Nielsen-Conner. Chris and Beverly were together for over 60 years and shared a very special bond. They spent every morning reading the paper together and every evening playing games.

Grandfather of Chelsea and Tyler Nielsen and Kayleigh Conner and Karah (Aaron) Sack . He also has two Great-Grandchildren, Henley and Harlynn Sack. Chris has many beloved nieces and nephews.

Chris had a long career at Martin Marietta/Lockheed Martin as a logistics engineer and logistics manager until he retired in 1988.

After retirement, Chris was an active volunteer for 10 years at a Denver soup kitchen. Then, for 15 years, he volunteered for the All Veterans Honor Guard, performing graveside services at Fort Logan National Cemetery. He also volunteered at the VFW as treasurer and Friday Bingo. Chris enjoyed golf, fishing and playing pool with his old work buddies.

As a Nebraska native, Chris has a strong soft spot for The Huskers and often said, “Go Big Red!” He loved Nebraska and his Danish heritage.

Chris made many friends that all loved him dearly. He always had a smile and a big thumbs up despite the adversities he faced in life. Chris has survived four separate cancers and two strokes -with the last stroke ending his life on October 24, 2019.

A memorial service will be held Wednesday, November 6, 2019, 10:30am, Horan & McConaty Family Chapel, 3101 S. Wadsworth Blvd., Lakewood. Committal will follow service at 12 noon Staging Area A, Fort Logan National Cemetery.
