Chris Veesaert of Littleton, Colorado, passed away peacefully at the age of 74, on January 1, 2025. His 3-month health battle highlighted his strength, determination and love for his family while facing life’s challenges.

Chris was the oldest of five children born in Missouri to M. Paul and Margaret Veesaert. Chris is survived by his loving wife, Carol, and their three children: Scott, Jeff and Julie (husband Parker); and six grandchildren: Liam, Bryn, Brysen, Kenley, Swayze and Sam. He is also survived by 3 siblings: Steve (wife Laura), Dave (wife Linda), and Jan (husband Michael). Chris was preceded in death by his brother Jim and his parents.

Chris began his studies at The University of Kansas, and then joined the army in 1969. He spent one year in Vietnam, and upon his return Chris was assigned to the 82nd Airborne Division at Fort Bragg, North Carolina. Chris and Carol married in 1971. Chris then completed his bachelor’s and master’s degrees in civil engineering at The University of Missouri – Rolla. He began his career working for the U.S. Forest Service in Washington State and then accepted a position with the Bureau of Reclamation in Lakewood, Colorado, where he worked until his retirement in 2008. While with the Bureau he was instrumental in developing training modules in dam safety inspections used both domestically and internationally. He had the privilege of traveling to a number of foreign countries, speaking and educating on Dam Safety.

Chris was passionate about his family; and after retiring, for nearly ten years, he and Carol spent several days each week with the grandchildren. He pursued his hobbies with determination. He became a Master Gardener and an avid bonsai lover - a passion he shared with his brothers. He rode his bicycle with a group of dedicated biking friends as often as possible. Not content to just ride leisurely, the group conquered Ride the Rockies, Triple Bypass, 109 West Bike Tour and many more organized rides. Every birthday he set out to ride the number of miles that would match his new age. Chris and Carol shared a love of exploring the world. They visited every continent, and over 50 countries. They were eager for every experience that unfolded on their journeys. His love for God and his family, and his support and guidance were unwavering. Chris lived an inspirational life.

Family and friends will gather to celebrate Chris on January 23, 2025, at 10:30 a.m. at Horan and McConaty -3101 S. Wadsworth Blvd. Lakewood; with a reception to follow.
