Christopher Michael Nelson

March 13, 1983 — November 6, 2015

Corporal Christopher Michael Nelson, 32, of Denver, passed away on Friday, November 6, 2015. Chris was born in Loveland, Colorado on March 13, 1983, to James Nelson and Robin (Nelson) Maestas. From a very young age, Chris developed a love for football, in particular the Denver Broncos and music. While in high school, Chris played both football and baseball, where he was given the nickname ""Cornflake"". Chris graduated from West High School in 2001 and enlisted in the United States Marine Corps in October 2004. While in the Marines, Chris served on a Marine Expeditionary Unit tour in 2006 to Thailand, Singapore, Kuwait, United Arab Emirates, Hawaii and Australia. In April of 2007 through November of 2007 Chris deployed to Iraq in Haditha AO. His duties included anti-insurgency patrols, mounted and dismounted patrols, and QRF (quick reaction force). Chris also spent 7 months deployed in Afghanistan from January 2010 through August 2010. Christopher was medically retired from the Marine Corps on August 1, 2014 when he enrolled at Red Rocks Community College to study journalism in hopes of becoming a sports writer. Christopher's legacy will forever be, he was the sweetest, most caring individual anyone who ever crossed his path had met, a sports fanatic and music aficionado, who loved his family and friends with all his heart and more. Chris is survived by his father, mother, step-father, 7 siblings, brother in law, grandparents Harry Nelson, and Daniel and Harriet Gill, 10 nieces and nephews, and a countless number of friends and family. Chris is also survived by his fantasy football win by 0.8 points on 11/9/15 against his brother, Adam Nelson. Chris, we all love you so incredibly much!
