Christy Lynn Mourning

Christy Lynn Mourning, beloved daughter of LT COL (USAF, Ret.) Charles F. and Myrna D. Mourning and mother of Justin Alan Mourning, went to be with Our Lord on November 16, 2007. Born in Tripoli, Libya, Christy lived abroad for most of her childhood while her father served in the United States Air Force. She was a resident of Denver for the past 35 years. Christy enjoyed her teenage years in Naples, Italy where she blossomed as an artist under the tutelage of Maria Cole. Her talent was exceptional, specializing in portraits and several media. Christy loved the art of the Renaissance period, Monet, Degas and later Picasso. For 30 years, Christy worked for the State of Colorado, 15 years at Metropolitan State College at Denver and retiring in 2006 from the University of Colorado and Health Sciences. She was a top-level Program Assistant for several departments at the University of Colorado at Denver. Christy was well-respected among professors, students and her peers. She always gave personal attention to whatever task she was asked to perform. Her special talents were, of course, in graphic art design. Fun-loving, beautiful, with a big smile and large expressive eyes, Christy was known affectionately as 'Nanny' to granddaughter Tenlie, niece Savannah and any other child she came to know and love. She had a 'big heart,' love of all people from many walks of life, and was a devoted daughter, mother, grandmother, sister, and aunt. Preceding her in death were her two grandmothers, Mary Margaret Mourning and Eloise Melvin Saunders; grandfather Ernest Walker, Sr.; .great-grandmother Louise Young and great-grandfather Wilson Young. Christy is survived by her parents, Charles and Myrna; her only child, Justin (Tiffany); sister, Diane Mourning; two brothers, Charles F. (Liz) Mourning, Jr. and Thomas Mourning; devoted uncles Ernest (Rita) Walker; Wilson (Janice) Walker, and John (Lana) Mourning; aunt Donna (Kennol) Knight; granddaughter Tenlie Taylor Mourning; grandson Haden Cooper; nieces Laura (Jeff) Hartman, Robyn Mourning, and Savannah Brown; great-nephews Andrew and Kyle Hartman; a host of cousins; Goddaughter Jessica Norwood and her long-time friend JoAnna Miller. Christy's special friends include Jeannette Wells and Shirley Steinshouer. Visitation for Christy Lynn Mourning will be Tuesday, November 20, 2007, 5 to 7 p.m. with a Celebration of her Life on Wednesday, November 21, 2007, 11 a.m., both at Horan & McConaty, 11150 E.
