Clara Thomas Aucoin

October 13, 1952 — January 24, 2012

Clara Thomas Aucoin, 59, of Lakewood, Colorado, passed away January 24, 2012. She was born October 13, 1952 in New Orleans, Louisiana. Clara is survived by her Husband, Donald W. Aucoin, of Lakewood; two Sons, Robert (Maria) Aucoin, of Denver; and Andrew Aucoin, of Lakewood; Parents, Wilma & Raymond Thomas, of Dunn, Louisiana; Identical twin Sister, Diann Thomas (Mike) Pierceall, of Muskogee, Oklahoma. Clara grew up in Robinson community just outside of Delhi, Louisiana where she attended high school. Clara and her sister were all-state athletes two years in a row, and their team was state runner up their junior year and won the State Title their senior year. She attended Northeast Louisiana University for 2 years where she was a member of the marching band and concert band. Upon Donald's graduation they were married in 1972. Besides married life and raising the two boys, Clara was an accomplished artist in various mediums but especially loved watercolor painting. She also enjoyed arts & crafts of various kinds and sold her works at many craft fairs over the years. Once the boys were grown Clara became a newspaper reporter/photographer which she dearly loved doing. She was awarded several state level Press Association awards for both her stories and photography in both Colorado and Mississippi. She worked at the Mountain Ear in Nederland, CO and also the Gilpin County News in Blackhawk, CO. She also worked at the Magee Courier in Magee, MS. Clara was a strong willed woman who lived life on her terms. She would give generously of herself to her friends, family, and the various causes for which she would get involved. While generous to a fault she would not mince words when offering her advice or opinion. With Clara you always knew what she thought. A Memorial Service for Clara will be held on Sunday, January 29, 2012 at 10:00 am, in the Horan & McConaty Family Chapel, 3101 S. Wadsworth Blvd., Lakewood.
