Clara Metzger

November 2, 1927 — December 12, 2020

Name: Clara Helen Catherine Joost Metzger (Kay) Age: 93, A resident of Greenwood Village , Colorado Passed Away on 12/12/2020.

Was a Member of St Peter Lutheran Church, Denver Ballet Guild, and Doll club.

Kay was born in Plum, Texas in her family home on 11/2/1927. She was raised with her younger brother Leroy in LaGrange, Texas. She enjoyed her childhood with her brother and cousins who lived close by. Mischief seemed to be  a theme with all of the cousins and Kay. She graduated from High School in  1941 and  left LaGrange for  San Antonio to go to college. Where she obtained an Associates Degree in Business. Her first job was with the San Antonio School District as a secretary for the Athletic Department. She scheduled all of the sports teams games, fields, coaches  and was responsible for payroll.

Her life changed forever when Kay met Bob   Metzger who was in the Navy.  Their romance blossomed and they were married in San Antonio, Texas on 9/5/1953

After marriage Bob moved the Southern Belle to the Great White North of Minnesota.

Kay and Bob started their family in St. Paul, MN,  Linda, John and Kathy arrived and life was never the same. In 1966 the family moved to Rockville, Maryland.  Kay became a secretary for the Montgomery County School District.  She was an avid gardener and a member of the Gardening Club.  She was also a member of the Welcome Wagon in our neighborhood Old Farm.

In 1972 the family moved to Greenwood Village, Colorado.  Kay worked at a secretarial service and then opened her own business, Kay Metzger’ Secretarial Service. She ran her own business until she retired at age  84.

Kay loved adventure. Whether hiking the Great Wall of China or going through the Panama canal she was excited to have new and different experiences.

She loved to hunt and fish.  Bob would not let her hunt geese on opening day with him because she was a better shot and always got the first goose. Kay loved to garden from sun up to sundown. Her yard was full of vibrant colors and perfectly manicured. One of her proudest moments was when the family home was on the Cover of Denver Living because of the beautiful garden. Kay loved to cook. She would feed anyone anytime of day.  Her favorite style was Chinese cooking.  Her dishes were delicious. Bob refused to eat out at a Chinese restaurants because her food was so good. Kay was a wonderful seamstress and for the first 3 years of marriage she made all of Bobs suits for work.

Later in life she became interested in making one of a kind art dolls. She was an excellent painter and made the clothing as well.

Kay had a great sense of humor and loved jokes. She was even known to pull a prank or two every now and then. That would take us all by surprise.

Kay was a devout Lutheran and throughout her life she talked about how her faith kept her strong and happy. She was an active member of her church and enjoyed Sunday service with her friends.

One of her greatest thrills in life was becoming a Grandmother. She was so excited to have three beautiful granddaughters and one  handsome grandson. She took an active interest in their lives and was  excited to hear what they were doing. She was glad when she became a great grandmother to two granddaughters and developed a very special bond with both of them. She enjoyed Elsie, Kathy’s Corgi as well.

She leaves behind many broken hearts by all those who knew her. She was a strong mother figure and yet a woman who was full of grace and beauty. Her wisdom and love will be missed by all. She lived a long fun healthy life and we know she is at peace with the Heavenly Father and her husband.
