John Clayton ""Clay"" Johnson, 88, of Centennial, Colorado, passed away at home on March 9, 2019, surrounded by family members. Clay was born July 31, 1930, in Denver, Colorado, to Oscar L. and Marian Buckley Johnson.
Clay grew up in the Denver area, attended Denver Public Schools and graduated from Randall School. He was always a very good athlete and played on many different sports teams throughout his school years and beyond. Golf, however, was his favorite game and he was able to enjoy playing most of his adult life. He was honored to be chosen to serve as a marshal for the U. S. Senior Open held at Cherry Hills in 1993. He had the opportunity to play at both Torrey Pines and Pebble Beach but his favorite golf outing was a trip to the Air Force Academy to play both courses there on the same day which he enjoyed numerous times.
Clay served two tours of duty in the United States Army during the Korean War and was also in the National Guard. Upon returning to Denver, he earned a degree in Mathematics from the University of Denver. With his career in the aerospace industry he lived and worked in several places in the United States and also in Germany. Ultimately, he returned to Denver and retired from Lockheed Martin in 1990.
Clay is survived by his wife, Claire and his six sons and their families: Jeff, Mark, Doug, Jerry, Brad, and Chris Johnson from his first marriage. He is also survived by his former wife, Mary Ellen Sikora, eight grandchildren and three great grandchildren as well as many extended family members and good friends. He will be missed by all who knew him. He was preceded in death by his parents and his sister, Elaine Foster.
A funeral Mass will be held at 10:30 am, Friday, April 12, 2019, at St. Mary's Catholic Church, 6853 S. Prince Street, Littleton, CO 80120.
