Clifton Flowers, age 96, passed away in his home in January. "The Professor", as he was called, graduated Top Boy from Thomas Jefferson High School in Port Arthur, Texas. After early graduation (the schools did this for conscription purposes) he was immediately inducted into the United States Army to serve in World War II and he became one of the "Greatest Generation".
He was very proud of his Military service and was at Camp Wolters in Texas and then joined the 100th Infantry Division. He was sent overseas to France and took part in the Battle of Bitche. After the Battle concluded, he moved on the the liberation of the concentration and prisoner camps.
When World War II ended, he attended undergraduate school at the Biarritz American University in Biarritz, France while still in the Service. After he was discharged home, he attended Lamar Junior College in Beaumont, Texas and the the University of Texas Law School. In the end, he had completed his undergrad and his Law School in a total of 4 years!
Clif completed the Air Force R.O.T.C. during law school and was commissioned as a 2nd Lieutenant and then Captain in the Judge Advocate General Corps (JAG). He practiced law in Harlingen, and Port Arthur, Texas and then in Boulder and Denver.
Clif was a man who loved to tell stories and his favorite and often repeated one was where he met the love of his life, Mary McInnes, on a blind date set up by her Uncle Mel in Port Arthur. They married six weeks later.
After marriage, they moved to her hometown in Boulder where he served as a municipal judge and then was appointed to the Attorney General's Office under "Duke" W. Dunbar. They moved to Denver to be closer to Clif's job and then adopted a son, Steve, and daughter, Carol.
He was appointed to the Denver District Court in 1974 and served on the District Court for 17 years - 8 of which was as Chief Judge.
Cilf had many loves in his life. Clif loved to play Snooker and played every day at the Denver Athletic Club. He was awarded the DAC Snooker Champ in 1978 - something of which he was very proud.
Clif and Mary also loved to travel and travelled all over the world together. He loved his church and was a member of Montview Presbyterian Church for well over 60 years. He also loved his scotch - Dewars scotch, and had a "Baffo" (his name for a cocktail) a day. Towards the end, when his memory was getting worse, he didn't remember much, but darn it, he remembered if he didn't get his scotch.
Lastly, Clif loved his family, especially his wife of 69 years, Mary. He is survived by his his wife, Mary; older brother, Willard, who is 99; daughter, Carol (Bob Frick); grandchildren Alex and Nick.
