Our beloved Clifton Carl Sonberg, age 94, passed away Thursday, March 13, 2025, at his home in Aurora, Colorado. Clif was born on February 7,1931, in Mitchell County, Iowa, son of Ralph and Vera (Tesch) Sonberg.
Clif was raised on a farm in Mitchell County, Iowa, near St. Ansgar. He loved to talk about cattle and horses and always remembered his happy days on the farm. In 1951 Clif joined the United States Air Force. While stationed at the Air Force Base in Mildenhall, England, Clif met the love of his life, Eileen, and they married on May 25, 1974. They had a happy marriage and enjoyed traveling the world together. Clif had a long and very successful military career, serving in both Korea and Vietnam, and retired as a Chief Master Sergeant in 1982, after settling in Aurora, Colorado.
Clif was preceded in death by his wife Eileen, his parents Ralph and Vera, and his siblings, Richard, Alice and Adrian. He is survived by Jason Martin (son), Tricia & Kale Reed (daughter & son-in-law), Christy & Jim Henderson (daughter & son-in-law), Tim & Sandra Sonberg (son & daughter-in-law), Sandra & Tom Ramirez (daughter & son-in-law), Marie Mullenbach (sister), Dorothy Vance (sister), three grandsons, and cherished family and friends throughout the United States, England and Ireland.
Clif’s highest priority was to be a good provider and to take care of his family. He never failed to do this. He was a loving husband and father and a true friend to all that new him. He was a hardworking man with a strong work ethic and lived his life as an example to others. Clif said that his success in life could be attributed to the demanding schedule and hard work he put in daily on the farm, while also attending school. Clif was a true patriot. He loved the Air Force, and he took great pride in serving his country. We will miss him dearly and will hold him in our hearts forever.
A Celebration of Clifton’s life will be held on April 10, 2025, at 10:00 a.m. at Horan & McConaty Funeral Home, 11150 E. Dartmouth Ave., Aurora, CO 80014.
