Colin F. Smith

Colin F. Smith of Denver, Colorado succumbed to brain cancer on June 29, 2010. He was born in Shanghai, China on September 11, 1935. During WWII, Colin, his parents and brother were confined to a Japanese concentration camp; in early 1946 they were repatriated to Tanganyika, East Africa. He completed his education in England, and graduated from the London Royal School of Mines in 1958 to begin his career as a mining engineer in South Africa. He moved to the United States with his family in 1979 living in Denver, Colorado and Salt Lake City, Utah. During the course of his career Colin lived or worked in every continent in the world except for Antarctica. He was respected for his expertise and professionalism, and continued to be active in his chosen field until the rigors of cancer treatments made it necessary that he resign in early-2009. Colin was predeceased by his mother, Isabel Frances Riach Fraser and father, Ernest Clifford. He is survived by his wife Sharon Goodner; brother Steve (wife Gillie) of Knysa, South Africa; three children - Sharon 'Shan' McLintock (husband Brian) of Johannesburg, South Africa, Jacquie Fraser-Smith of San Antonio, Texas, and Nicholas Frasersmith (wife Kellie) of Castle Rock, Colorado; the mother of his children, Malean Fraser-Smith of Johannesburg, South Africa; four beautiful granddaughters Taryn McLintock, Hannah, Ashley and Lilly Frasersmith; nephews, niece, grandnephews and grandnieces; and stepsons. Colin requested that there be no formal services. His children wish to express their sincere and heartfelt gratitude to everyone at The Porter Hospice at the Johnson Center who became Dad's loving and caring extended family during the last three months of his life.
