Connie Marlane (Yount) Banks, 76, passed on December 29, 2024. She was a dedicated nurse, a devoted homemaker, and a nurturing mother and grandmother to three children and nine grandchildren. She was born in Springfield, Missouri on June 22, 1948, to Edward Donald Yount and Norma Dolores (Shelton) Yount. Throughout her lifetime, Connie held dear the close relationships she had with her parents and with her three sisters, with whom she shared an extraordinary and enduring bond of affection. Year on end, she strived to visit them in the Springfield area as opportunity, geography, and in later years, health permitted.
On graduation from Parkview High School in 1966, she attended St. John’s School of Nursing in Springfield, achieving certification as a Registered Nurse in 1969. She met the love of her life while in school, marrying Tom, a young Army officer, on July 19, 1969. During their 55-year journey together, they lived in Germany, Oklahoma, North Carolina, California, and Kansas, finally settling in Colorado – in Lone Tree and later nearby Parker – where they have watched their family grow for over 35 years.
She was a devoted mother to her three children, who are acutely grateful for her unconditional love. She tended to their every milestone while instilling by word and deed a sense of independence, responsibility, and fortitude in the face of adversity. Yet it was the small everyday moments of care, learning, humor, and affection that yielded their most cherished memories of her. Connie’s greatest joy in later years came from nurturing her grandchildren and enjoying their company in learning and play. They adored her in turn, and as they grow into adulthood look back on that time spent with her with abiding affection.
Connie enjoyed a long career as an accomplished and compassionate medical-surgical nurse, she was highly regarded by many of the patients she cared for. Over the years, she provided nursing care at hospitals in Lawton, Oklahoma; Lawrence and Lansing, Kansas; and Littleton, Colorado.
Connie is preceded in passing by her father, Donald (1994) and mother, Norma (2009). She is survived by her husband, John Thomas (Tom) Banks of Parker, Colorado; three sisters, Vicki (and Bob) Shackelford, Sally (and Jim) England, and Susan (and Bill) Robb, all of Springfield, Missouri; a sister-in law, Catherine Banks (and Greg Janeczko) of Springfield, Missouri; three children, Paul (and Lisa) Banks of Littleton, Colorado, Christopher (and Wendy) Banks of Windsor, Colorado, and Jennifer (and Stefan) Englund of Centennial, Colorado; and nine grandchildren, Max, Tyler, Parker, Katelyn, Lindsey, Bee, Ayden, Charlie, and Anna. Connie also leaves behind many other family members and friends who deeply miss her.
