Connie R. Walker
August 4, 1936 ~ February 24, 2019
Daughter of Fred E. Harris and Ruth McClaugherty Harris, Connie Ruth was born August 4, 1936, in San Antonio, Texas. During her formative years, she was âadopted' by the I.H.S. Sunday School Class of Travis Park Methodist Church. She attended Thomas Jefferson High School in San Antonio and went to college at Southwest State in San Marcos, Texas. During those years, she met the love of her life, Glenn Walker. On Nov. 6, 1954, they were wed at Travis Park Methodist Church and began their military life together.
After the Korean War, Glenn was sent to serve in Japan. Connie, with her special daughter Ruth Marie and her 6 month old son Fred followed soon thereafter. The trio made the challenging journey unescorted, flying in a not-so-comfortable military carrier with a midnight stop in Hawaii, followed by a refueling stop in Guam before landing in Tokyo. While in Japan they formed lifelong friendships and embraced the Japanese culture. Connie joined the Order of the Eastern Star while in Japan and remained a lifelong member for over fifty years.
After the Korean War, the Walker family was transferred back to the states, with duty stations in San Antonio, Amarillo and Denver. After years in military service they settled into their Colorado home in Arvada where they lived for over forty years. In the 70's Connie & Glenn welcomed a third child Glenda, and soon, Connie would begin her years of dedication to PTA. In later years, her family would be increased when Fred married Merrill Wray and Glenda married Shawn Mangers. She was later blessed to become a Grandmother and Great-Grandmother.
She passed from this life on February 24, 2019, preceded in death by her Father and Mother, Fred and Ruth Harris, her daughter Ruth Marie Walker, and her husband Glenn.
She is survived by her son Fred Walker and daughter-in-law Merrill of Windsor, Colorado, her daughter Glenda Mangers and son-in-law Shawn of Arvada, Colorado, by her granddaughter Meghan Elmore and husband Jason of Stafford, Virginia, grandson Garrett Walker and wife Kimberly of Centennial, Colorado, great-grandsons' Taevyn and Declan Elmore, and sister Debbie Blackerby and brother-in-law David of San Antonio, Texas.
