Our sweet son Corey passed away suddenly on June 18, 2024 in Castle Rock, Colorado at the age of 17. Corey was born in Orange County, California on June 9, 2007. He was carefully and lovingly placed into the arms of his adoptive parents, Jim and Lori Schroath, on June 11, 2007. Corey spent his early years in Boise, Idaho and Spokane Valley, Washington before settling in Castle Rock. Corey was a student at Douglas County High School where he was preparing to enter his Senior year.
Corey enjoyed his time in Colorado where he took advantage of being close to family, fun UTV trails and great skiing. He loved rock climbing and bouldering at the local climbing gym. He enjoyed gaming online with friends and cousins. When Corey loved something, he loved it with his whole heart including foot long meatball subs and chicken tenders. In his downtime Corey was a voracious reader and would often read late into the night to finish a huge book he had started the day before. He had an excellent memory and loved surprising us with random facts from his reading. Corey loved technology and had a knack for maximizing any device's potential.
Corey was an active member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints. He will be most remembered for his willingness to help others, whether it was getting water for a landscaper who looked hot or helping a fellow skier who had fallen over. Corey was adored by his sisters and will be dearly missed. He leaves a teenage boy-sized hole in our family.
Corey is survived by his parents, Jim and Lori Schroath; his sisters, Brooke and Hallie; his grandparents, Joe and Linda Musso; his grandmother, Connie Schroath; and his many Aunts, Uncles and Cousins. Corey was preceded in death by his Grandfather, Tom Schroath.
Funeral services will be held on Friday June 28, 2024 at 11:00 am at The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints chapel located at 3301 Meadows Blvd, Castle Rock, CO. Viewing will be held prior to the service from 9:30-10:45 am.
In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to Rocky Mountain Rett Association: https://www.rmrett.org/ in honor of Corey’s sister Hallie who has Rett Syndrome.
The family expresses their love and gratitude to all who have given love and support through this very difficult time.
