Cupendae' Clarice Anderson

September 9, 1972 — November 29, 2007

Cupendaé (Penda) Clarice Anderson, 35, a Denver Colorado Pioneer native, passed peacefully away Thursday, November 29, 2007. Cupendaé was known by those who loved her as Penda. She attended and graduated from Smoky Hill High School and continued her education at Pasadena Community College in California. While in college, she studied Liberal Arts and launched a successful music career. Cupendaé loved music and the Arts. She was a natural entertainer: an actress and a comedian to her family and friends that never left a dull moment. In the early 1990's she became a successful recording artist for 'Gemini Records.' Her group was entitled 'Smooth Connection' and her success landed 2 hit singles, 'Oh How I Love You' and 'Cry Freedom'. Both were listed in Billboard Magazine's Top 20. Her last concert was in Phoenix, Arizona and National Recording Artist, Sybil, opened the show for Cupendaé. It was an open air concert in which over 1 million people attended. Cupendaé has accolades in the UCLA campus magazine March/April 1990. Within this time, Cupendaé became ill and it became difficult for her to continue with her music. She relied on her family and faith in God to carry her through. Cupendaé lived at home to care for her mother, father, and family. Cupendaé was known as the 'Security Guard' because she protected everyone in the family. Cupendaé so loved her family and she adored her nieces and nephews; and therefore she lived her life through music, laughter and song with all of them. Cupendaé was baptized in 1978 at St. Thomas Episcopal Church in Denver, Colorado; and April 22, 2006, she was confirmed at Cure D'Ars Catholic Church and was joyfully welcomed into full communion with the Roman Catholic Church. Cupendaé so loved her Catholic faith: she prayed, read her bible; and did her rosary several times a day. It was the basis of her continued existence. She is survived by her parents, Russell & Clarice Anderson, Sr.; siblings, Charisse L. Anderson Nelson, Russell Anderson, Jr. (Marjorie), O'Della C. Anderson, Paul L. Anderson, Sr. (Alicia), Patrick Charles (Rocio); adopted siblings Maria Ramos and Lille Brown (Jerry); nieces Carol J. Rebecca Anderson, Jasmine Sparks, Christina Ramos; nephews T. Christopher C.
