Curtis M. Roe

December 26, 1960 — May 13, 2019

Living in Denver to take care of family and to serve the Church, Curtis Roe passed away unexpectedly after a fatal bout with the flu. He is survived by his parents, Garland and Martha Roe; his brother-in-law and sister, Robert and Rachel (Roe) Bruce; his beloved niece, Heather Bruce; and numerous relatives living in Colorado, Kansas, North Carolina, Tennessee, New Mexico, California, and Georgia. He is also survived by scores of friends and professional colleagues.

Curtis was born the day after Christmas and grew up in Denver, Colorado. He attended the Denver Public Schools and graduated from Thomas Jefferson High School in 1979, where he sang in the show choir, McGregor's Beggars. He earned a bachelor's degree in hotel management from the University of Nevada, Las Vegas in 1983. From there he pursued a career in human resources with several hospitality companies around the United States, including Marriott and Hilton. Curtis developed a professional reputation for tackling difficult managerial challenges such as opening and staffing newly built hotels and cruise ships. He served as human resources manager for ‘Caesars at Sea,' notably the Crystal Serenity.

While working in Las Vegas during his career, Curtis became a member of the Green Valley Presbyterian Church and served the newly formed congregation as a deacon. His leadership was indispensable. He continued this Christian commitment when he moved home to Denver in 2008 and re-connected with Wellshire Presbyterian Church. His was a well-known face on Sundays, and served as a Stephen Minister and member of the Mission Committee.

In Denver, Curtis has worked in human resources for United Parcel Service; the employees admired his kind, positive, and professional manner. He balanced his duties at UPS with committee work at Wellshire as well as daily care for his parents and involvement in the life of his niece. He leaves a rich legacy of Christian faith, cheerfulness, and an ever-present willingness to serve. Curtis became people's first call if they needed help.
