Dale Edward Getty

May 12, 1939 — March 3, 2016

In Loving Memory of Dale's Joyful Life Dale was born in Downs, Kansas on May 12, 1939. He grew up in Almena, Kansas where he started first grade, and on the first day he met Rosemarie Hays. Dale attended school in Almena and Rose was transferred to a one room country school through the eighth grade. Dale began courting Rose in high school. Dale played football, basketball and baseball in high school but basketball was his main interest. Upon graduation they both attended Fort Hays State College where Dale earned a scholarship playing basketball. Dale and Rose were always a devoted couple and married while they were still in college and Diane arrived. Dale graduated with a degree in business and started his first job with Pan-American Petroleum Company (Amoco) in Casper, Wyoming. Living in Casper provided a new understanding of ""wind"" and a love of exploring the mountain and a son named Mark. When Dale was offered a transfer to either Tulsa or Denver, Rose said she wouldn't move to Tulsa because of the tornadoes. It goes without saying they moved to Littleton. Dale left Amoco and went into residential real estate sales, while Rose taught first grade in Littleton Public Schools. They purchased their first camping trailer and began exploring the Colorado Rockies. Several years later they traded the camper for a water-skiing boat which got good use on family trips to Lake Powell and Glendo State Park in Wyoming. Dale never lost his love of travel. Trips to Mexico, Hawaii, Europe, rafting the Grand Canyon, Costa Rica and many more. In the mid-90s a wonderful 13 year old granddaughter, Veronica, come into their lives when Diane adopted her. She made their family complete. She and her husband, Aaron, have brought their great-grandson, Ayden, and great-granddaughter, Kyeira Rose, into our lives. He is survived by his beloved wife of 56 years, Rose; two children, Diane Welsh (Chuck) and Mark Getty; grand-daughter, Veronica O'Brien (Aaron); two great-grandchildren, Ayden and Kyeira; and his sister, Karen Peter. A celebration of life will be held on Friday, April 8, 2016 at 1:00 p.m. at Horan & McConaty Family Chapel, 5303 East County Line Road, Centennial, Colorado. Memorial donations may be made in Dale's honor to the Alzheimer's Association at 455 Sherman Street #500, Denver, Colorado 80203 or online at www.alz.org/co.
