Dale Joseph Smith, M.D.

Dr. Dale J. Smith went to his eternal reward on July 14, 2009. He was born on Aug. 25, 1937 in Dayton, OH, the son of John A. & Theresa (Vida) Smith. He graduated from Chaminade High School and the University of Dayton, OH. He received his M.D. degree from the Ohio State University at Columbus, OH, in 1963. His postgraduate training was at Philadelphia Gen'l Hosp., Denver General Hosp., and The Ohio State University Hospitals. He married his darling Lois M. Vincunas at Philadelphia, PA on June 20, 1964. She passed away in 2008. His office, for the practice of Internal Medicine, was at the Harvard Park Medical Bldg., Porter Hosp. Campus. He was a Commander in the U.S. Navy Reserve. He served at the USNH Subic Bay, Philippines, as Chief of Medicine and aboard the aircraft carrier, USS Bon Homme Richard during the Viet Nam conflict. Later at Camp Pendleton Naval hospital, CA as Asst. Chief of Medicine. He is survived by his 3 daughters, Karen (Greg) Hoggatt, Suzanne (Doug) Rougier, and Anne (Kyle) Durlam. He has five wonderful grandchildren, Katrina, Meredith, and Trevor Hoggatt, Bryn Rose Durlam & Madeline Rougier. A brother, Don (Karen) of Maui, HI, and numerous nephews & nieces that he loved dearly and was very proud of. He enjoyed travel, football (Broncos and Buckeyes), computers and the beautiful Rocky Mountains. He did genealogy research & hailed from 3 Virginia families, the Roberts', Hemry's & Capper's from Perry Co., OH & Winchester, VA. He was an emeritus member of Porter Adventist Hosp., Swedish Hosp., Arapahoe Medical Society, Amer. College of Physicians/American Soc. of Int. Med. and Colorado Medical Society. A viewing will begin 2:00 Sunday, with a rosary service at 5:00 PM, at Horan & McConaty, 1091 S. Colorado Blvd. A Mass of Christian Burial will be at 10:00 AM Monday, St. Vincent de Paul Church, 2375 E. Arizona Ave., with interment at Mt. Olivet Cemetery to follow. Donations may be made in his name to the Make-A-Wish Foundation, 7951 E. Maplewood Ave., #126, Greenwood Village, CO 80111.
