Dale Yowell

Dale was called home on August 29, 2012. Born May 19, 1929 to Lester L. Yowell and Kathryn A. Brenneman he was the youngest of six children. The family lived in Maryville, MO, Fort Morgan, CO, Calhan, CO, Curtis, NE, and Holyoke, CO engaged in farming and later managed several grain elevators. Dale graduated from Phillip's County High School with the class of 1947. He played in the band, was on the football team and was also interested in Boy Scout work. Dale worked at the Sioux Ordnance Depot in Sidney, NE before being drafted to the army. His basic training was in Fort Jackson, SC and was then sent overseas Sept. 1951 to serve with the 124th Armored Ordnance, Maintenance Battalion with the Army of Occupation in Germany near Bad Kreuznach as Corporal. After serving with the Army Reserves state side he was honorably discharged on November 6, 1956. On February 14, 1954 Dale married Jacqueline L. Weldon in Holyoke. Dale was employed at numerous grain elevators in NE Colorado including: Reimer-Smith Grain, Jack's Bean & Seed, Holyoke CO-OP, all in Holyoke, CO. Later in life Dale enjoyed employment with the Cherry Creek School District Dept. of Transportation in Aurora where he made many friends. Dale enjoyed volunteering at the Aurora Interfaith Task Force, University Medical Center, and as an usher at his churches in Aurora and Billings, MT. While living in Billings, MT he volunteered many hours at Billings Clinic. His hobbies included square dancing (over 50 years), model railroading, leather work, wood craft, and he was a huge Broncos & Rockies fan. He is preceded in death by his parents, wife, Jackie, brother, Wayne, and sisters, Alice Hoppler & Norma McCormick. He is survived by daughter & son-in-law, Carol & Dave Schlachter of Portland, OR. Grandchildren, Nate & Dayspring Schlachter, Phillip Schlachter, & Bethany Schlachter and great-granddaughter, Simone Schlachter, all of Portland, OR. Son & daughter-in-law, Bruce & Michele Yowell of Strasburg, CO. Grandchildren, Andrew Yowell & Alex Yowell. Sisters Verda & Dave Bloomquist of Las Vegas, NV and Agnes & Frank LaBounty of Austin, TX. Sister-in-law Lois Boller of Wichita, KS, brother-in-law Chuck & Ruth Ann Weldon of Avoca, MI and several nieces and nephews. Memorial service to be held on Sunday, September 9, 2012 at 2:00pm at Peace With Christ Lutheran Church, 3290 South Tower Road, Aurora, CO. Rev. Michael Hiller officiating. Grave side with military honors at Holyoke Cemetery, Monday, September 10, 2012 at 10:00am. Rev. Gary Rahe officiating.
