Dallas Beauton Vowell

August 9, 1931 — June 8, 2019

Dallas Beauton Vowell, born in Mississippi and resided in Colorado, went home to be with our Lord in Heaven on June 8th 2019 after battling many illnesses in the past few years. His brother, Joe Vowell, died 2 months earlier.

He is survived by his wife, Shirley Vowell, his daughter, Michelle Love, and many nephews and nieces with loving memory.

There will be a viewing on Sunday, June 23rd at Horan and McConaty, 3101 S. Wadsworth Blvd., Lakewood, CO 80227 from 1 to 4 p.m. Services will be held on Monday, June 24th at Foothills Bible Church, 6100 S Devinney Way, Littleton, CO 80127 at 9:30 a.m with a military ceremony following at Fort Logan National Cemetery at 12 noon.

He was in the Air Force during the Korean War as a Staff Sergeant working on C-47 planes. He was then stationed at Lowry Air Force Base in Colorado where he met his future wife at a church picnic. They were married April 16, 1955. He then went to CU Boulder and received a BS in Electrical Engineering. After graduation he became an employee at Lockheed/Martin Marietta for 29 1/2 years unil retirement. During that time, he and Shirley had a daughter born, Michelle.

His career was during the era of the golden age of the our Space Program with our most celebrated astronauts. He had worked at NASA on the Titan Missile Program along with some of the working arm components of the Viking Probe on Mars. He saw many Apollos go off at Space Kennedy Center, and he met many astronauts including Jack Swigert whose character was played by Kevin Bacon in the movie Apollo 13. He saw and spoke with Swigert every week at church.

Being at NASA, he shared a love of all Sci-Fi shows and movies like Star Trek, Star Wars, and many others, He was a big kid at heart and loved going to Disney all the time. His favorite ride was, of course, the big globe Spaceship Earth at EPCOT, which had to do with Space.

He was just a poor farm boy from Mississippi picking cotton with his brothers not too far from where Elvis grew up. He was always looking to the clouds and space. Two men from Mississippi both growing up poor, and both had dreams for themselves. One was an icon in music, and the other was a rocket space engineer that worked at NASA. He was very much an Elvis fan and the two had similarities. They were both religious and Dallas read his Bible every night before bed.

He shared a lifetime of love, laughter, and good memories with his family and friends.

Revelations 21:4 “And God shall wipe away all tears from their eyes; and there shall be no more death, neither sorrow, nor crying, neither shall there be any more pain: for the former things have passed away.” (KJV)
