He passed away July 18, 2015 after a courageous battle with cancer. Dan graduated from Atlantic High School where he was a member on the state championship golf team. He graduated from the University of Iowa with a degree in pharmacy. His schooling was interrupted by three years of military service in the United States Air Force. He was honorably discharged, from active duty with the USAF, as a First Lieutenant and achieved the rank of Captain in USAF Reserves. He returned to the University, after his active duty military service, and earned his Masters in Hospital Pharmacy Management. Upon graduation, he served as director of Pharmacy at Penrose Hospital in Colorado Springs before accepting the Director of Pharmacy at Colorado General Hospital in Denver, Colorado. He retired in 1987. While studying at the University of Iowa, he met his wife of 62 years, Greta Hawkinson Young. To this marriage was born four children, Marsha, Dave (Bobbie), Lisa and Sue. . Dan had many passions including traveling extensively in the U.S. and Europe and they were often joined by Greta's sister and brother-in-law, Marsha and Dick. Dan and Greta also enjoyed attending weekly ballroom dances for many years. He participated in a golf league and was an avid reader. Dan was a great fan of all sports especially the Denver Broncos and Denver Nuggets. The greatest passion of all was his family - - especially his grandchildren: Kara, Brooke, Nathen and Zach; his eight great-grandchildren: Beli, Nina, Ian, Meriah, Laylah, Avi, Juliet and Niko; and many nieces and nephews. Their returned love and attention brought him great joy. Dan will be remembered as a husband, father, brother, grandfather and uncle whose first love and priority was his family.
