Daniel "Dan" Cassano

Emblem

Daniel Robert Cassano was born in NYC, NY on 9/2/1947 to Dorothy H. (Pollack) & Daniel J. Cassano. He was raised in Astoria, NY and lived there until he married his devoted wife, Virginia Theresa Cassano on 9/28/1975. A year after their marriage, they moved to Mineola, NY where they lived for 9 years. In 1985, they moved to Littleton (Centennial) Colorado and lived there for 33 years. Since then, they have been living at Windcrest Independent Living in Highlands Ranch, a suburb of Denver. He and Virginia were very happy in their new community.

Dan is survived by his wife, Virginia (Ginny) and son, Michael and his wife, Tracy, and his Grandchildren Ryan Daniel, Hailey Lynn and Anthony Dale. Dan is also survived by his siblings Barbara Reed and Carol Giroux. Preceding him in death were his brother, Ronald, sister-in-law, Monica Cassano and brothers-in-law, Jack Reed and Hal Giroux. He is also survived by his cherished in-laws and out-laws, nieces, nephews and loyal friends.

Dan graduated from Aviation HS in Queens, NY in 1965 where he attained a Power Plant Mechanic License. From 1966-1970, he served in the United States Air Force including tours in Vietnam and Thailand. After completing his assignment in the USAF, he was employed with United Airlines for 32 years in NY and CO. After retiring from UAL in 12/02, he moved to the mountains and bought a Mountain Man Nut and Fruit franchise and was known as “Dan, The Mountain Man”. After 10 years as a purveyor of quality chocolates, nuts, dried fruits, trail mixes and candies, he then became a driver for EPIC Mountain Express (formerly Colorado Mountain Express in Edwards, CO) for 8 years.

Over the years, when Michael was young, Dan was a youth hockey coach for the Littleton Hockey Association and the Vail Mountaineers. He also was a member of the Windcrest Veterans’ and Car Clubs.

In 2016, he and his wife moved back to the Denver area where he continued driving for EPIC. He lived in the Denver area until his death on 10/29/23. Dan will be remembered as a gentleman, a gentle man, devoted husband, father, father-in-law, Grandfather, brother, uncle, Godfather and hockey fanatic. He was a LIFE-LONG RANGER FAN (He can now “die in peace”!) He loved to travel, be with his family, esp. his Grandchildren, and friends. He will certainly be missed by everyone who knew him. He now enjoys time in the celestial ‘ready room’.
