Daniel John DeWispelare

March 29, 1949 — September 24, 2010

Daniel John DeWispelare, 61, of Lakewood, Colorado, died September 25, 2010 at his home. Over the last few years he had struggled with his health, and in recent months he suffered severely. He was born March 29, 1949 in David City, Nebraska to Emil and Marie Birkel DeWispelare. He always reminisced about how much he loved life on the farm. Dan spent two yeas in the US Air Force, a time he always thought about fondly. After leaving the service, he attended the University of Nebraska in Lincoln, where he met Kathryn Hecke. Kathy and Dan were united in marriage on January 12, 1974. Most of their married years were spent in Denver, Colorado, a place where Dan built his career as a Real Estate Broker and pursued his love of gardening, woodworking and working on cars. Survivors include his wife Kathy; daughter Amy and her husband Paul; and son Daniel. Additionally, his sister Eva of Fremont, NE; and brothers, Edward of Omaha, NE and Gerald of Octavia, NE. Daniel was preceded in death by his Father, Emil and most recently his mother, Marie in October of 2009, which was in some ways a loss from which he never recovered. A Funeral Service will be held on Thursday, September 30, 2010, at 11:00am, at Horan & McConaty Family Chapel, 3101 South Wadsworth Blvd, Lakewood, CO 80227. A viewing will be held prior to the service, from 9:00am-11:00am. Burial will be at Fort Logan National Cemetery, 3698 South Sheridan Blvd, Denver, CO at 12:30pm, Area ""B"" Memorial donations may be made in Daniel's name to: Habitat for Humanity 1500 West 12th Avenue Denver, Colorado 80204 To share memories of Daniel or condolences with his family, click on the ""sign guestbook"" tab below.
