Daniel Arthur ""Dan"" Hood died as a result of an accident in his home Tuesday, September 13, 2011 in Denver. A memorial service will be held Saturday morning at 10:00 am at the Trinity United Methodist Church, 1820 Broadway in Denver. Dan was born December 28, 1952 in Pampa, Texas. He was the valedictorian of the Pampa High School Class of 1971 where he was the senior class vice president, an officer of the student council, and a member of the National Honor Society. Dan was a leader of the defense of the Pampa Harvester football team that was achieved a 6-4 record and was the first winning season for Pampa in 17 years. Hood was a three year letterman in baseball for the Harvesters. He was also a member of the Hustling Pampa Harvesters basketball squad as a junior. Dan's Valedictorian's address on ""Discipline"" was widely praised and the subject of nationally broadcast publications and a commentary radio show. Dan was also a 1975 graduate of Texas A&M University with a B.S. in physics. At the time of his death, Dan was the Western Sales & Service Manager for Hitachi Data Systems. Dan worked his entire professional life in the information technology business. He was an avid outdoorsman and golfer. He was also an accomplished musician playing since his junior high days until his death in a local band as guitarist and vocalist. Dan married Sonya Steffen on January 2, 1982. The Hoods had lived in Denver for more than 20 years. Dan is survived by his wife Sonya; a daughter Danielle of Fort Worth, Texas; his dad Jack R. Hood and wife Charlene of Pampa; his in-laws; and a whole host of cousins, aunts and uncles, friends, and colleagues.
