A Funeral Mass will be held in Daniel's memory at 9:30 in the morning on Wednesday, October 2, 2013, at St. Therese Catholic Church, 1243 Kingston Street, Aurora, Colorado, 80010. The following, is a message about Dan's life from the family: ""Dan Matheu was a real American Hero. Dan was shot down over Germany on an air raid in World War II. He became a prisoner of war in Germany and returned home after the war with Tuberculosis. He spent two years at Fitzsimmons Hospital, where he eventually lost a lung. He went on to raise 7 wonderful children- Mike, Janet, Carl, Donna, Carol, and Scott. Dan also worked as a watchmaker and went on to start his own watch repair business. In 2005, Dan lost his loving wife Audrey. Daniel was a strong man, only needing the help of assisted living less than a year ago, at the age of 89. The daily visits from his children were the highlight of each day. He was a genuinely happy guy, who always saw the best in people. He will be particularly remembered for his ability to to make everyone laugh with his stories. Although he could make everyone laugh and smile, Dan missed his wife Audrey very much, and it was a great hardship to not have her with him. We can all have the comfort of knowing that they are finally together. We all miss them terribly."" Please share your condolences with Dan's family by signing the guestbook below.
