D.W. ""Wally"" Schaffer Daniel W. ""Wally"" Schaffer, Of Arvada, Died August 18, 2010. He was born in Denver in 1923 to H. George Schafer and Anne Gabel Schafer. He attended Denver Public Schools, graduating from North High School in 1942. He earned his Journeyman Machinist designation in 1950. Mr. Schaffer served in the U.S. Navy during World War II and was honorably discharged with the rank of Coxswain after active duty in the Pacific Theater. In 1947, he married Josephine Brancucci in Denver. She predeceased him. They have two daughters, Danette Grauberger (Robert) of Parker, CO and Rosann Doran of Broomfield, CO. Professionally, Mr. Schaffer worked for Silver Engineering Works, Inc., in the machine shop as apprentice, lead, assistant foreman, foreman, superintendent and inspector. He retired in 1991 and continued briefly as a contractor to the company. he loved family, friends, fishing, hunting, sports, especially baseball and football. Mr. Schaffer was a member of the Veterans of Foreign Wars-Capra, DeCanio, Gicia, Tezak Post in Denver; of the American Legion and Littleton Elks Lodge 1650. Survivers besides his daughters and son-in-law include his grandsons, Dr. Daniel Doran of Seattle, WA, and Joshua Grauberger of Parker, CO. Mr. Schaffer is also survived by a sister, Geraldine Osborne of Henderson, CO, formerly of Arvada, and numerous nieces and nephews. His parents, three brothers and two sisters predeceased him. Funeral Service, Tuesday, 12:00 PM, Horan & McConaty Family Chapel, 3020 Federal Blvd., Denver. Interment follows at Fort Logan National Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to Laradon Hall, the American Cancer Society, or the charity of choice.
