Daphne "Dossie" Hustad

Daphne “Dossie” Hustad passed away peacefully 12-06-20, with her daughter, Beth,  by her side. Daphne was born Daphne Ellen Person, October 6, 1926, in Moline, Illinois, to Lennis W. Person and Juanita Anderson Person.  She graduated from Moline High School, and attended University of Iowa and Augustana Lutheran College in Rock Island, Illinois.

Daphne loved every minute of her work for United Airlines as a sales agent, first in Moline, where she met Jack (John D. Hustad), and later in LosAngeles and San Fransisco.

After a 7 year courtship, Daphne and Jack were married in 1956 and moved to Buffalo, NY, where their son, John David Jr., and daughter Beth Ellen (Gilbert) were born.  In 1963 they moved to Indianapolis, Indiana and then back to Moline in 1968.  Jack’s job took them to Evansville, IN for 2 short years before settling in Decatur, IL in 1972.  Daphne became a very successful residential realtor and loved her interaction with the community and business leaders in town.Daphne and Jack retired to SunLakes, AZ in 1983, where they enjoyed golf, travel, dancing and many good friendships.  Daphne relocated to Highlands Ranch, CO to be near Beth following the deaths of Jack (2008) and David (2013).  She enjoyed new and special friendships, bridge, a nightly glass of red wine, and her little dog, Mollie, who was  beloved by all. Daphne is survived by Beth, son-in-law, Kent Gilbert, grandsons Daniel, Matt and Joey Gilbert, granddaughters, Maggie Gilbert and Michelle Hustad, and her dear daughter through love, Maria Hoida of Wisconsin.

A celebration of Daphne’s life will be held in the Spring. Memorial gifts may be sent to Holy Trinity Lutheran Church, 739 W. Erie St., Chandler, AZ 85225.
