Darren Michael Koontz, age 47, died at UC Health Hospital in Aurora, CO on January 8, 2023, of esophageal cancer. His sons and family were at his side.
He was born on November 11, 1975, at Hannibal Regional Hospital in Hannibal, MO, the son of Carl and Diane (Gardner) Koontz.
Darren’s journey in this life took him many places. He moved from Quincy, IL to Estes Park, Co where he went to school and still has many classmates as friends. He joined the Navy at 19 and was a communications technician with a security clearance. He was stationed at Pensacola, FL and at Norfolk, VA. His service training led him to a civilian life as an electrician in Phoenix, Arizona for several years where he had his own business, Power Point Electric. He loved to create indoor as well as outdoor special effect lighting for his customers. His work as an electrician helped him transition to a program analysist as he joined his brother in creating programs to help state, county, and local governmental agencies. In all his endeavors he won the hearts of the people that he worked with and for.
Darren was an avid Bronco fan and loved sports of all kinds: basketball, baseball, boating, hunting, camping, and especially fishing. He went deep sea fishing many times and he loved fly fishing at Henry’s Fork in Idaho as well as local streams and lakes.
