David Hugh Binkley was born on November 3, 1947 in Champagne, Illinois to Max and Lois Binkley. Dave's places of refuge during his life were in Champagne (married student housing) Frankfurt Germany; Detroit, Michigan; Pueblo, Boulder, Platteville, Lakewood, Grand Lake and Highlands Ranch, Colorado.
He graduated from Pueblo Central High School in 1965 and the University of Colorado receiving two bachelor degrees for Electrical Engineering and Business in 1970. In 2014
Dave received his master's in mathematics: emphasis on teaching.
Dave married Joan Mosbo in 1970. They had 2 sons, Craig and Pete. Joan passed away in May 2002.
He taught math and physics as well as coached track and cross-country. He also coached junior high girls' basketball during his 29 year-tenure at Erie Middle/Senior High School in Erie, Colorado. Dave had about 80 runners who earned medals at state track meets. He also organized the first girls' cross country meet in the state of Colorado in the mid-1970's.
Dave counts among his special friends two foreign exchange students, Volker Krieg from Germany and Ilona Sips from the Netherlands.
A year after marrying Marilyn Greb and while living in Lakewood, CO, Dave decided to ride his recumbent bicycle across US with a long-time friend who was turning 50. They rode from St. Augustine, FL to San Diego, CA along the Southern Tier route, in 43 days. For details see: SunshineGolden@CrazyGuyonaBike.com.
A move to Grand Lake, CO brought Dave and Marilyn to become very active volunteers with the Rocky Mountain Repertory Theatre. Dave learned how to build sets for Beauty and the Beast, was on the Facilities Management Committee, refurbished small apartments for company housing, and along with Marilyn landscaped the campus.
Dave traveled to all 7 continents using many modes of transportation, including traveling in England by tandem bicycle with Joan. Dave's favorite destination was East Africa (Tanzania, Kenya, Uganda). Dave and Marilyn attended the Athens and Beijing Olympics and their final continent was Antarctica in 2022.
Finally, Dave was most proud of winning the first annual mousetrap car race sponsored by the Engineering School at CSU.
