David Cronk

David Miller Cronk

David was born in Laramie, Wyoming to Marilyn Kay Miller and David Sterling Cronk. At that time, fathers were not allowed in the nursery. David's dad snuck into a janitor's closet with a window just large enough to view his new born son.

Having three older sisters, David's gentle countenance and unwavering patience were a benefit.  As a boy, he helped set up congregations of stuffed animals so services could be held and wrote sweet notes drawn with smiling suns as gifts to his mother and sisters. Celebrations of birthdays were remembered with specially designed cakes and hand made cards and gifts. David was proud to be a Boy Scout and was consistently good natured and generous.

He listened. He was interested in what you were about. He remembered, acted upon, and supported the good in all.  If  you were down, he made you feel better. If you were up, he shared in your joy.

David's athletic pursuits included wrestling and playing football at Cherry Creek High and the University of Wyoming. Rugby was  an enjoyed past time as was snow skiing--if you needed to find "D" on the slopes, his red and white top hat could be spotted for quite a distance.

David's kit cobra, clean burning propane suburban, and '57 Chevy truck were sources of automotive pride.

A true renaissance man, David could fix, sew, draw, build, design, and cook nearly anything. He attended Pasadena college of Art and Design and while in CA, worked in the theater bringing laughter to many as a stand-up comedian. He could clean and organize a house as well as build one and worked for some time as a general contractor. David is the author of Critter Junction and MayMay's Garden. Poet, illustrator, publisher.

Throughout his life, David was engaged in positivity and willing to help anyone in any way he could---from taking a pie in the face(literally) to actively supporting Destination Imagination where he encouraged and guided his nephew,  Ziah, and  "Team Booje" to win a state championship. "D" worked as a para with physically and intellectually challenged youth, securing his dream job at the Bridge Program in Colorado teaching young adults life skills and self sufficiency. His students loved him and he loved them.

David walked in love. In dignity. In grace. In humor! He was witty, resourceful, intelligent, sensitive, and kind.

David met his wife, Su , in 1988.  As young love may do, they soon  collaborated on a design for a wedding ring. A true romantic, David  kept that sketch for over a decade, presenting Su with her custom made ring in 2001. They were married at the Castle and their fairytale continued. They were together for 33 years.  "Who knows how long I've loved you? You know I love you still..."

Their daughter, Maysun, arrived in 2004. His "pun'kin". Bucking bronco rides, a handcrafted doll house, cooking fun, water fun , all kinds of fun. David made many festive costumes for them all . ( Dressed himself as a giant flower with May "bee"side him, an elaborate crown for Su, scarecrow, princess bubblegum, the trio as a rat, cat ,and  bat....)  David was a knight in shining armor . Yes, that he was, a knight in shining armor.

Maysun carries on her father's immense creativity through  theater, music, fine arts and culinary creations.

David spent most all summers at our family cabin---whittling whistles, treasure hunting for lost sunglasses and old car parts; skiing,  kneeboarding,  waverunning, crawdad hunting with the children. Captain Dave was always willing to take anyone out on the lake for a ride, a ski, a pull, an adventure from dawn to dusk (unless he was cooking).

Whether it was watersports or trivial pursuit, Dave was the man to have on your team.

If folks were coming in late, David would be waiting on the porch to greet them with a big hug from a big man with a big heart. "D"s hugs were the best.

David Miller Cronk is preceded in death by his mother, Marilyn Kay Miller (whom he once referred to as his biggest fan).

He is survived by his wife, Su Cronk, daughter Maysun Rose Cronk, father David Sterling Cronk, sisters Kathryn Orion, Roxanne Raben & DaMarr Raben, nephews  Ziah  & Dylan , niece Kai , grandnephew Owyn, brothers Cole Cronk & Asher Cronk. David is also survived by aunt Patti, cousins John, Amy and  Chris. Su's loving family,  cousins , second cousins, relations,  extended family and friends.
