David Cross

February 28, 1939 — July 14, 2022

Denver, CO

David John Cross, age 83, of Denver, Colorado passed away while surrounded by his three loving children and daughters-in-law on July 14th, 2022. He was born February 28th, 1939 in Newark, New Jersey to Cochrane Bart Cross and Edythe Farrell. He was the grandson of John J. Farrell, Julia B. Gordan Farrell and David Lowe Cross, Agnes Cross. Stretch, as they called him in those days for his fabled, frugal ability to stretch a dollar, graduated from Montclair High School where he was number 7 and played center on the high school football team and in the Glee Club. He graduated from LSU where he was an honorary member of Delta Kappa Epsilon and could often be found there enjoying delicious meals and attending various social events, without paying dues. He was a Basic Airman of the 68th Bombardment Wing of the United States Air Force.

He moved to Denver for the Sears Roebuck Management Training Program. He was a stock broker at Harris Upham, Smith Barney, and Hannafin M Hoff. He was incredibly proud of his children Sean Cross  [Marla Cross] , Kevin Cross, and Devon McClurken [Jean McClurken]. He was a devoted and dedicated member of Resurrection Anglican Fellowship Church (and previously Saint Thomas Episcopal Church) where he was known for his legendary lemon squares. He was a loving grandfather (called affectionately Bunny to the stubborn few and DadDad to the rest) to his grandchildren Kayla, Rory, Camile, Aidan, Ethan and Raquel Cross and Olson McClurken who were all quite surprised to hear about the legend of the lemon squares, as they knew him for his coveted Christmas chocolate chip cookies that they would all fight over and devour when he sent them in colorful Christmas tins to their houses in time for Christmas, every year His secret recipe has been passed down, however no one yet can truly make the cookies the special way he did. His home was filled to the brim with family photos, hand made artwork, and mementos. He was a great cook (famous for his Easter Leg of Lamb and Legendary Gumbo),  a loyal friend, a devout Christian, an avid book reader, connoisseur of the finest bourbon, armchair dendrologist, a certified crab cake critic, Broncos supporter, Blues fan, self proclaimed sarcastic funny man, and looked terrific in purple.
