David L. Fergason

July 19, 1942 — August 23, 2011

Autobiography - David L. Fergason July 2011 I was born in Alliance, Ohio 1942, and grew up with an active lifestyle involving hunting, fishing, camping, boating, bird dog training, model airplanes, taxidermy and working for farmers in the summer for income as time from chores and studying permitted. My parents taught me the values of industry, honesty, keeping my word and discipline, and encouraged my efforts. In grade school and high school I won numerous awards in humorous speech competitions. The values I learned and experience of speaking in front of people made a big difference all through my life. I earned a B.S. in Metallurgy from Case Institute of Technology in 1964 and worked until 1967 as a research metallurgist in Albuquerque, New Mexico, supporting the national nuclear weapons program. In 1967, I transferred to Rocky Flats and held positions as research metallurgist, R&D business and plans coordinator, wind systems project manager and manger/special projects representative for numerous R&D, production, wind systems, finance and compliance management projects. While employed at Rocky Flats I earned a M.S. in Metallurgy from D.U. and a M.S. in Business Administration from University of Northern Colorado. During my 26 years at Rocky Flats, I married Peggy Valdez in 1977 and we have a son who graduated with a B.S. Degree in finance from C.S.U. As a family, we maintain an active lifestyle. Peggy and I are both retired. Activities we currently enjoy include avid reading, golfing, skiing, hiking and backpacking, canoeing, photography, traveling, gardening, investing and volunteering to help teach reading and math to elementary kids in Denver. After retiring from Rocky Flats in 1990, I was a management consultant for several companies until 2001 and was president of the Candlelight Valley HOA for six years. I have a great community and were blessed to be surrounded by wonderful neighbors, friends and family. ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ Dave passed away August 23, 2011 while hiking with close friends in Glacier National Park.
