David Fullerton

Dr. David S. Fullerton was born on March 30, 1941 in Norwalk, Ohio, to John C. Fullerton and Dorothy M. Hay, and he passed away on Friday September 7, 2018 at Saint Joseph Hospital in Denver at age 77. He is survived by his wife of 48 years, Elia Fullerton; his three children, Dr. David (Erica) Fullerton, Rick (Ahtossa) Fullerton, and Karen (Kashif) Masood; and his eight grandchildren Leah Fullerton, Jenna Masood, Ty Fullerton, Tara Fullerton, Julia Fullerton, Samuel Fullerton, Henry Fullerton, and William Fullerton. David was preceded in death by his sister Nancy E. Althauser and is survived by his brother-in-law Gerald ""Jerry"" Althauser.

David graduated from Kenton High School in 1959 and received his B.S. from Waynesburg University in 1963. He then earned his M.S. from Yale University in 1965, his M.A. from Princeton University in 1968, and his PhD from Princeton University in 1971. David started his career in Geology as a Professor at NYU but he was very soon to receive offers from Government Geological Survey agencies. In 1972, he accepted a position with the Ohio State Geological Survey and in 1974 he accepted a position at the United States Geological Survey in Denver. He found his home in Colorado, raising his family there and holding his position as a Glacial Geologist at the USGS until he retired in February 2017. He loved working in the field, nature, and collecting rocks. His favorite movies were science fiction. His favorite hobby was spending time with his grandchildren. He would joke that he had children just to have grandchildren.

Services to celebrate David’s life will be held on September 22, 2018 at 11:00 am at Horan & McConaty Family Chapel in Lakewood at 3101 S. Wadsworth Blvd., Lakewood CO 80227.
