David Andrew Hill

November 7, 1949 — August 10, 2018

David Andrew Hill of Denver and Aspen passed away peacefully in his sleep on August 10, 2018, at the age of 68, after a courageous battle with a rare form of cancer of the duodenum. He was born in Idaho Falls, Idaho, to Clara and Gerard Hill, and grew up in southern California. His long battle started just four days after retirement in early February 2018.

David was preceded in death by his parents and his brother-in-law, Ralph Rogers. He is survived by his loving wife, Janine Jacinto Hill; stepchildren, Gary Sharkey and Kathryn Sharkey (Glenn Hopkins); his sister, Suzanne Hill Rogers; and aunts, uncles, and cousins.

David graduated from Loyola University of Los Angeles Marymount College in 1973, with a communications major. His love for travelling began in the family business of Roller Derby where he worked as an announcer and occasional skater. He then traveled the world with Semester at Sea. Business and pleasure took him abroad on many trips after that. A true Renaissance man, David enjoyed jazz, classical music and opera; theatre; intellectual pursuits; and most sports.

During college, David published his first book-a restaurant guide– with lifelong best friend, Patrick Schmidt-""A Biteful of L.A."" He learned the trade publication business and then became a niche magazine publisher. David and his first wife moved to the Fort Collins area of Colorado in 1983. He pursued the Colorado lifestyle with gusto as an expert skier, mountain biker, and touring the passes on his motorcycle. In California, he was both an expert surfer and sailor and a natural at all sports. During the past three years, David pursued his passion for trains by building an elaborate ""N"" scale model railroad layout.

He and his soulmate, Janine, met on Match.com in 2003, and it was love at first sight for both of them. Two weeks later they were engaged and then married five months after that. He and Janine lived full time in Snowmass Village until 2011 when they relocated to Denver. Because he wanted to stay close to family and friends, they kept a condominium in Aspen. David enjoyed working hard and playing hard side-by-side with his wife, Janine in their 15 years together.

Two memorial services will be held. The Denver memorial will be at 11 am on Friday, August 31, 2018, at Horan & McConaty Funeral Home, 11150 E. The Aspen memorial will be at 2 pm on Friday, September 7, 2018, at the Inn at Aspen 38750 Highway 82 Aspen, CO 81611. An online guest register is available at www.horancares.com.
