David Richard Joseph

July 29, 1944 — February 24, 2011

David Richard Joseph Born in Zanesville, Ohio July 29, 1944 Passed on February 24, 10:22p.m. 1944-2011 David Richard Joseph was born on July 29th 1944 in Zanesville, Ohio to Dick and Ruby Joseph. The family moved to San Fernando California in 1949. Dave attended San Fernando High School which is the home to Richie Valens + Charles White. He graduated in 1962. Following that, he went into the Navy on a program called Kidz Cruise due to him being only 17 years old. He was honorably discharged on July 27, 1965, which was right before his 21st birthday. While in the Navy Dave was decorated as a hero when he helped to restore radio communications during a violent storm by climbing to the top of the mast to correct the problem. Upon release from the Navy Dave joined the California Highway Patrol. He graduated from the Academy September 12, 1966. During his 38 years on the force one may remember some of the following stories- * Laying on the back of the radio box and steering with his feet while traveling over 60 mph on the freeway * Escorting the Rose Bowl Teams and Presidents * Falling asleep in the patrol car with his partner John Cota during Graveyard * Wearing a Pig's Mask on Halloween, while riding his motorcycle * Inspections????= LA County Fire, LAPD, Shorts as a uniform- (definitely not code) Married Christine Cowden in 1967 and had 2 incredible children: daughter Shana and son Steven. They were in Simi Valley during this time. In their marriages Steve and Shana were to give their father 5 beautiful Grandchildren- Heather, Wensday, Erich, Jenna, and Ryan. Dave was later to marry Susan Widauf Roberts on April 25, 1975 at Kirk O' the Valley. They combined their families, which now included two more wonderful sons- Rick and Greg to make the family whole. Rick and Greg added 5 more loving grandchildren- Rachel, Jake, Maddie, Joshua, and Lucy. Dave coached Little League Baseball for 10 years. He also coached Club Girls Softball for 5 years. As a coach Dave was known for his leadership style, pulling the best out of his players, fun, and incorporating life lessons for all. No matter how busy, Dave (Dad) was at ALL of the kids' school, sporting, and other activities. To Dave family was always first. Some of his favorite activities were Golf, Snow Skiing, attending sporting events, going to church, and spending time with his Grandkids. One fond memory as a child was when Dave went to a Cleveland Browns game with his Dad, ""It was the best day of my life."" Dave's passion for sports started at a very young age, he would stay home from school one day every year to watch the All Star Baseball Game. To this day he has never forgiven his mom for getting rid of his baseball card collection (which she denies). His favorite place to visit was Hawaii. Dave was baptized on Easter of 2009. He had a strong faith that was shown in how he lived his life. David is survived by his father and mother Dick and Ruby Joseph, his loving wife Susan Joseph, his brothers Mike and Jerry Joseph, his sister Molly Lindsey, his sons Rick Roberts, Greg Roberts, his daughter Shana Joseph, and son Dr. Steven Joseph DC, his 10 Grandchildren- Heather, Wensday, Rachel, Jacob, Maddie, Erich, Joshua, Lucy, Jenna, and Ryan.
