David Melena

David Charles Melena, 69, died from heart failure Saturday, Feb. 11, in a Denver, Colo., hospital.

Dave was born to Woodrow and Vivian Melena in O’Neill, Neb, Nov. 12, 1953. He graduated from O’Neill High School in 1972 and University of Nebraska--Lincoln in 1976. For a couple decades, Dave worked in banking in Omaha and took friends and family on his sailboat at nearby lakes. He left Omaha and continued his more than 45-year banking career in Denver. He retired in recent years and was nicknamed “Banker Dave” by his social circle. He traveled to sunny locations including Hawaii, Palm Springs and Puerto Vallarta. Dave enjoyed good friends, good scotch and good music from Talking Heads to Patsy Cline. He did not like funerals and requested no services.

He is preceded in death by his parents. He is survived by his brother Jim (Lynn) Melena and nephews Mike (Carol) Melena and James (Ryann) Melena, and great nieces and nephew Lillian, Matthew, Vivian, Imogen and Maeby Melena.
