Dave was an exceptional athlete participating in football, basketball, swimming, diving, and track and field. During his high school years at Arapahoe, Dave focused on football and basketball. Dave was extremely proud of his community work after leaving the Greeley Campus of UNC. He was a 15+ year regular at the UNC Bear Football Spring Training “Captain’s Breakfast” and loved addressing the scores of young football athletes with his magic delivering motivational messages. He was honored to speak at the memorial service of UNC Coaching Legend Bobby “Buck” Rollins and was an instrumental figure in the planning committee to build UNC’s Nottingham Field Stadium complex in 1995, supporting the football and track and field programs. Later in life, he spent countless hours walking and biking around Denver’s historic Washington Park, often taking his favorite pal and dog buddy, Judge, in tow. Dave also enjoyed golf, fly-fishing, and making art. He was in the middle of writing two children's books, and had many sketchpads full of drawings and doodles. The constant entrepreneur, Dave was never without the next big idea, and he had many passion projects going at all times. Dave loved music and could be found constantly burning CDs, blasting music in his home, and attending concerts as often as he could. He spread love by sending music and art, and he passed this along to his vast network of loved ones. Dave was the sharpest dresser, and he had many different looks that ranged from urban cowboy with boots and a hat, cool and casual with the freshest tennis shoes, or high-class in a sharp tuxedo. He participated in a Men’s Fellowship where he mentored, listened, and supported those around him in unforgettable ways. He had a huge personality, an infectious grin, a kind heart, and a soothing word. People simply gravitated to the Big Dog in the most remarkable ways. David will be remembered for his fierce, unwavering loyalty and commitment to family and friends alike, and he lives on in the hearts of the many people's lives he touched.
Dave was a family man and took great pride in his relationships with his siblings, and his nieces and nephews. He was always scheduling gatherings to get everyone together and always brought pictures and gifts a plenty. As the self-proclaimed “documentarian” he made sure to capture life with photography, and ensured that there was always a photo shoot at every event. Above all, he was the proudest father and grandfather anyone could know. God graced David with two beautiful daughters, Lannie Marie and Jessie Lee, with their mother Cindy Meyers. His joy of being the father of these women simply knew no bounds. He mentioned every opportunity he got the immense gratitude he had for watching both of his daughters marry great men that he bonded with on a personal level. And on June 12, 2022 God blessed David with his precious granddaughter, Remi Lee Meyers – born to proud parents Jessie and Cody.
Dave’s “happy place” was at Daniels Park just south of Highlands Ranch. Colorado. He loved that place and frequented it often, both in hard times and in good.
