David Prickett

On June 24, 2022, David Preston Prickett passed away in Denver, Colorado after a long wonderful life.

David (Dave) was born in the small town of Sentinel, Oklahoma, on July 4, 1931. In his early teens, he moved with his family to South Texas where he lived until joining the Air Force in April 1948. While in the service of his country, Dave was stationed at Andrews AFB, NJ; Offutt AFB, Nebraska; Randolph AFB, TX, as well as having three tours of duty in Germany. Temporary duties took him to Morocco, Saudi Arabia, Italy, England, and Turkey. On his first tour of duty in Germany, Dave met Hildegard (Hilde) Rothenhöfer, the love of his life, whom he married on April 18, 1953.

In the1960s, the Air Force went automated, and Dave went with them. He remained in the computer field, retiring in 1977 as a Chief Master Sergeant after twenty-nine years of service. A hard worker all of his life, Dave may have retired from the Air Force, but he did not stop working. In 1978, Dave moved with Hilde and their youngest son, David, to Colorado where he worked at the Air Force Finance Center until his retirement from full-time work. Even then, he didn’t stop, taking part-time jobs for several years before retiring for good.

Dave loved hiking with his family and friends, including conquering several “14-ers.”  In the winter, he spent many weekends skiing with son David.

Seeing an ad in the paper, Dave surprised Hilde by suggesting that they learn square dancing, which they enjoyed for many years. They also joined S*M*A*R*T (Special Military Active Recreational Travelers), exploring the United States and Canada with the friends they made through that group.  Dave and Hilde traveled the world together, visiting Rome, the Caribbean, Shanghai, the Holy Land, Siberia, and may other wonderful places.

At home, Dave was an avid reader, a love he passed on to his children. He particularly enjoyed reading about history and discussing what he learned with his children and grandchildren. Dave loved bluegrass, gospel, and old-time country music and enjoyed German hits of the ‘70s. He also loved telling funny stories, often from the adventures of his youth.

Dave was preceded in death by his son, Roy Alan Prickett. He is survived by his wife, Hildegard (Rothenhöfer) Prickett; his daughter, Linda Shindler (Dutch); his son David Rohmbock (Debby); his grandson, Richard (Rick) Chan, and Rick’s fiancée Lori Brinkman; his granddaughters, Lisa Chan and Kasmirah Rohmbock; his great-grandchildren, Abigail and Madeline Chan; and his sisters, Laverne Webb and Joye McCoy.

Dave was a good man, and a loving husband, father, grandfather and great-grandfather. He was a warm and loyal friend and will be missed dearly.

A service to honor Dave and celebrate his life will be held at Horan & McConaty on July 14, 2022 at 10:00 a.m. with committal service at Fort Logan National Cemetery at 1:15 p.m.
