He and his family lived there until the late 70s, when they moved to Estes Park, Colorado. David graduated from Estes Park High School in 1980 and decided to go back to Kansas to go to college. David went to college for a couple of years, but decided school wasn't right for him at that time. During this time in Kansas, David met his good friend JB. JB and David share many stories during their time in Kansas they had a lot of laughs. After visiting a friend in Dallas, Texas, David decided to move to Dallas. David worked at several jobs while living in Dallas. He started his own landscaping business, buying a car and removing the passenger seat so that he could haul his tools. It was during his time in Dallas that he met one of his best friends Judy. David and Judy were roommates for a number of years, enjoying each other's company and spending quiet Sunday mornings at Le Madeline reading the Sunday paper. In 1995, after a visit to Colorado, David decided he wanted to move to Denver to escape the Dallas heat and humidity, and to be closer to his parents. David moved in with his good friend from Kansas, Randy, and they shared an apartment until David found a place on his own. In March of 1997, David met his long-time partner Brad at a mutual friends house. They dated for a little over a year, and after a three-week vacation in Europe, bought a house in the Mayfair neighborhood in October 1998. The house is a beautiful Tudor style, where they both enjoyed decorating their home, working in the yard, and having friends and family over for parties and dinner. David loved to cook. He was always trying out a new recipe, although he many times would only follow the recipe so far before he would start to put his own spin on the dish. Everyone who ate David's cooking raved about how well he cooked. Brad was very lucky to get many wonderful meals. David was even awarded a certificate for his apple pie – Brad's brother Doug was so impressed with the pie that David baked for a holiday dinner, that he sent David a certificate of appreciation in the mail. David loved listening to jazz music. His favorite artists were Billie Holiday, Ella Fitzgerald, Sarah Vaughn, June Christy. David and his mom enjoyed sharing music with each other. David would sometimes light a few candles and play his music – sometimes while taking a bath. David loved travel and airplanes. As a kid, David would draw pictures of airplanes and he knew the logos and designs of all the major airlines. David took his mom to Paris and Rome to see the sights together. David and Brad spent three weeks in England, Italy, and Amsterdam. They also went on cruises with their friends Adele and Jennifer. David loved the home he shared with Brad. He always had his eye open for a new piece of art or something to make their home or yard more beautiful. His friend JB helped David increase his art collection, as they both have an extreme love of art and beautiful things. David collected art by listening to his soul – he didn't buy things for their value, but for their beauty and how they spoke to his heart. Most of all, David loved helping people and making them happy. David was always the first to offer help to family and friends. He would help his parents take care of their house and yard; he would fly to his friend Judy's house to help her with chores; many times he helped Brad's mother around her house. He also appreciated when people would be nice and helpful to him. He made a point of getting his nurses at Rose Hospital small gifts for their support while he was dealing with his cancer diagnosis and health problems. David's love of people contributed to his tremendous enjoyment for his work as a concierge – he really did not like being behind a desk. All of David's clients in his concierge business became his friends.
