David Arthur Smith of Highlands Ranch, CO died on October 26, 2020. David fought a short, intense battle with cancer and complications from COVID-19, but left this life peacefully, surrounded by his loved ones. He was born on March 29, 1949 in Terre Haute, IN to Arthur and Thelma Smith. He is survived by his loving wife Susan, his beloved daughters: Meredith and her partner David (Ohio), Catherine, her partner Matthew, and her son, David’s incredible grandson, Wolf (Colorado). He is also survived by his twin brother, John, and John’s wife, Vicky Smith (Oregon); and nephews Matthew (Colorado) and Daniel (Oregon).
David worked in Radio, Television and Cable Broadcasting for most of his career, beginning as a radio station disk jockey (DJ) when he was still in high school. His many jobs in the TV and Cable industry took him and his family to many locations around the country, including Columbus, OH, Salt Lake City, UT, Baltimore, MD and Bristol, CT where he was Vice President of On-Air Advertising and Promotion for ESPN for 10 years.
After moving to Colorado in 1996 and working for another national Cable TV provider, David and his wife collaborated to open their own family business, Go Putt! Miniature Golf, in Lone Tree, CO. They were involved in operating their business on a daily basis from 2001 to 2017 and thoroughly enjoyed watching their many repeat customers “grow up” while playing mini-golf, year after year.
Immediate family will remember David in a private memorial service at home. Due to COVID-19 concerns, a more public celebration of life may be planned at a later date. In lieu of flowers, please consider a donation in David’s name to one of his favorite organizations or charities: Denver Dumb Friends League, American Cancer Society or Habitat for Humanity.
