David Russell Webb, a beloved husband, father, grandfather, great-grandfather and brother passed away unexpectedly on Sunday, June 16, 2024, in Denver, Colorado. He was 79 years old.
Dave is survived by his wife of 60 years, Judy Wheeler Webb, and their children: Kristi Holck (Brian), Kathy Hanneman (David), Kim Webb, and Matt Webb. His legacy continues through his four grandsons: Brad Holck (Morgan), Josh Hanneman, Tim Holck, and Alex Hanneman (Alexe), as well as his great-grandson, Griffin Holck. Dave is also survived by his four sisters Sue Altheiser (Les), Linda Clapper (Steve), Jan McElvain (Pat) and Joyce Penland (Dick) and many nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents Russell Paul Webb and Dorothy Furnace Webb of Kewanee, Illinois.
Born in Canton, Illinois, Dave graduated from Bushnell-Prairie City High School in 1963. He pursued English and History Education degrees at Western Illinois University. Dave co-owned the family business, Farm and Home Center, in Kewanee, Illinois. Later, he embarked on an investment career with Edward Jones, eventually opening an office in Manitowoc, Wisconsin. His dedication to financial advising continued until his retirement in December 2007 from Jefferson Bank in Jefferson City, Missouri.
Dave actively participated in the communities where he lived. He served on the Finance Board at St. Paul’s United Methodist Church in Manitowoc, WI, and was a longstanding member of the Rotary Club there. Additionally, he contributed to the Salvation Army board in Jefferson City, MO.
Sports played a significant role in Dave’s life. In high school, he excelled in football, basketball, baseball, and track. An avid golfer, he also held the title of State of Illinois Trapshooting Champion. He continued his passion for trapshooting while living in Missouri. Dave also enjoyed playing tennis and snow skiing. He proudly supported the Chicago Cubs and the Green Bay Packers. He loved watching basketball, especially admiring great shooters and the Golden State Warriors.
Beyond sports, Dave loved flying planes and snowmobiling. His love for motorcycles and trading trucks and cars added excitement to his days. Alongside Judy, he bred German Shepherd show dogs and relished traveling to dog shows. Dave was a skilled guitar player, a tradition passed down from his family. He was a member of the Manitowoc barbershop chorus, The Clipper City Chordsmen. He loved listening to music of all genres.
Dave’s sense of humor endeared him to all who knew him. He epitomized the role of a loving family man until his last day.
In lieu of flowers, the family kindly requests donations to St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital in Memphis, TN.
