Dean was born in Amery, Wisconsin. He attended the University of Wisconsin and the University of Minnesota. He graduated with degrees of Bachelor of Science and Agricultural Education and was also a graduate of Life Insurance Marketing Institute at Perdue University. Dean taught high school in Elmwood, Wisconsin and was a high school principal. He worked for Farm Bureau in various capacities for 35 years in Wisconsin and then in Colorado as Executive Vice President. He was on the board of directors of Central Bank of Colorado and Farm Credit Bank. He served on the Colorado Expenditures Council, Colorado Health forum, CSU Dean's Council for Agriculture and was President of Colorado Rural Health Association. Dean was also very active in his church.
He was married to Isabel Kernkamp in 1951. He leaves behind his wife, 5 children, Emily (Roger) Adcock, Deanne (Mike) Irving, Russell (Janet) Kittel, Rebecca (Clarence) Kirk, and Carl (Lisa) Kittel, and 14 grandchildren.
Dean loved the Lord and was active in his church as an elder, Sunday school superintendent, and lay preacher.

In honor of Dean, a Memorial Service will be held Sunday, November 10, 2019, 2:00pm at Wind Crest Retirement Community (3235 Mill Vista Rd, Highlands Ranch, CO 80129).
