Deb Dawson

Deborah Ann Dawson died on June 9, 2013 in Lakewood, Colorado. Born in Sioux Falls, South Dakota on December 1, 1949, she is the daughter of the late Harold and Pearl (Christensen) Dawson. She attended Sioux Falls public schools and was a member of the 1968 Lincoln High School graduating class. In 1972, Deb earned a Bachelor's Degree from the University of South Dakota where she was a member of the Alpha Phi Sorority. In 1980 she completed her Master's Degree in Human Development and the Family at the University of Nebraska in Lincoln. Child development was an ongoing interest and fascination for her. Deb's career was spent working on behalf of children and families. She began working at the Nebraska Department of Social Services in 1972 and after moving to Colorado in 1995, she subsequently worked at the Denver Department of Human Services. Deb had a lifelong love of books and reading. Some of her fondest childhood memories are of spending time in the Sioux Falls Children's Library. She also loved the many hours she spent on her grandparents' farm just outside of Viborg, South Dakota. Deb was a member of the Volunteer Interaction Program at Golden Retriever Rescue of the Rockies, which allowed her to spend time petting and playing with Golden Retrievers, a breed of dog she adored. Deb is survived by Roxanne Sabin of Denver, her partner of twenty-five years and by Sophia Maria, her beloved Golden Retriever. She is also survived by her brother Jim Dawson of Sioux Falls, South Dakota, several godchildren; many cousins; her aunts and uncles: Doris Donahoe of Denver; Shirley and Carl Korsmo of Escondido, California; Alden and Janet Christensen of Viborg, South Dakota and Kilmer and Darlene Christensen, also of Viborg, South Dakota. Deb was preceded in death by her parents, grandparents and several aunts and uncles. A Memorial Service will be held at 2:00 PM on Saturday, June 15, 2013 at Horan & McConaty Family Chapel, 7577 West 80th Avenue, Arvada. A Reception will be held following the Service.
