Debra “Debbie” Lange, a woman of strength, determination, and unwavering love, passed away on November 27, 2024, surrounded by her family, who will forever carry her fiery spirit. Born on December 4, 1955, in Springfield, Illinois, Debbie lived a life defined by hard work, resilience, and a love for her family that was as fierce as it was unconditional.
She is survived by her devoted husband of 46 years, William Lange, with whom she shared 47 years of life together; her children, William (Brandon) Lange and Andrea McNutt; her son-in-law, Todd McNutt; her cherished grandchildren, Caleb and Ali McNutt; and her treasured great-grandchild, Mason McNutt.
For 45 years, Debbie dedicated herself to her career as a policy manager for the Bureau of Reclamation within the Department of the Interior. Her work was a testament to her tireless commitment and sharp mind, reflecting her belief in tackling challenges head-on and leaving things better than she found them. She brought the same passion and determination to her career as she did to her role as a mother, grandmother, and wife.
Mom wasn’t one to sugarcoat life. She was strong-willed, spoke her mind, and loved her family with a fierce passion that didn’t always come wrapped in softness. She taught hard lessons, gave blunt advice, and loved deeply in ways that were as unique as they were unforgettable. Whether through her words or her actions, her love was always undeniable, often expressed in her tireless efforts to see her family thrive.
She had a talent for turning simple moments into treasured memories. An avid crocheter, Mom created beautiful handmade pieces that will be lovingly kept for generations. She found joy in the outdoors, spending countless weekends camping with her family. Her kitchen was a gathering place where she prepared meals that nourished both body and soul. Her quick wit and sharp humor kept everyone laughing and ensured that life with her was never dull.
A passionate reader, Mom loved immersing herself in romantic thrillers, a genre she adored for its strong characters and heartfelt stories. It was a reflection of her own vibrant spirit—strong, passionate, and always ready for the next chapter.
Her legacy is one of tenacity, warmth, and love that wasn’t always gentle but was always true. Her family will forever cherish her stubborn determination, her protective nature, and the countless memories she created with them.
Mom was a woman of contrasts—tough and tender, outspoken and deeply caring. Her family will remember her laughter, her creativity, and the countless ways she showed her love, even if it didn’t always come wrapped in a bow.
A private celebration of Debbie’s life will be held by her family. In lieu of flowers, they ask that you honor her by embracing life’s challenges, cherishing time with your loved ones, and staying true to who you are—just as Mom always did.
Rest well, Mom. You lived and loved your way, and we wouldn’t have had it any other way.
