Delma Lowayne Hargrave

Delma Lowayne Hargrave, 95, of Arvada, Colorado, passed away on April 8, 2024. 

Lowayne was born in Pilot Point, Texas on October 15, 1928, growing up in Northeast Texas and moving to Dallas in her late teens. She met her future husband, Cecil Walton Hargrave, in July 1948. Five months later, in December 1948, they were married and remained so for 70 years, until his death in December 2018.

A hardworking homemaker, Lowayne was devoted to her family; both immediate and far-flung. She always ensured that her husband and children remained connected to their roots, arranging annual family vacations to the places where relatives resided – Texas, California, and Idaho. Her family treasures their memories of Lowayne as an outgoing, gracious woman with an engaging sense of humor.

Lowayne eventually resumed a full-time position in insurance claims – where she enjoyed working with the public.  She retired from the Van Gilder Agency at the age of 67.

Lowayne is survived by her daughter, Margie Mellenbruch (Grant); sons, Paul Hargrave (Betty Jo) and Eric Hargrave (Debbie); and stepson, Christopher Hargrave (Margaret). She also leaves behind 10 grandchildren and 13-and-a-half great-grandchildren.

The funeral service will be held Friday, May 3 at noon at Horan & McConaty Funeral Service and Cremation at 7577 W. 80th Avenue, Arvada, CO 80003. Interment will follow immediately after the service at Fort Logan National Cemetery.
