Delmar D Metheny, 82, passed away January 13, 2015. Delmar was born March 18th, 1932 in Morland, Kansas to Ila and John Metheny. Delmar is survived by his wife Elizabeth Metheny, son Mark Metheny and his wife Suzanne Metheny, their 6 children Jessica, Jonathan, Brittany, Allyson, Lindsey, and Olivia, his large extended family, and many friends. A brief visitation will take place on Friday, January 23, 2015 at 10 a.m. at Horan & McConaty 5303 E. County Line Rd. Centennial, CO 80122. A Funeral Service will follow at 11 a.m. with the Committal Ceremony at Fort Logan National Cemetery 4400 W. Kenyon Avenue Denver, CO 80236 at 1 p.m. (Cemetery Staging Area A at 12:45 p.m.). An online guest register is available at www.horancares.com. Delmar grew up farming with his parents and 5 siblings in northwest rural Kansas. He graduated from Bogue High School, served as a Corporal in the U.S. Army in Europe, and returned to Kansas to graduate from Fort Hays University with a B.S. in Chemistry. After college he moved to Washington D.C. to begin his 30 year career as a chemist for the U.S. Patent Office where he met and married Elizabeth Lyford, his wife of 57 years. In 1960 they bought a house in Vienna, Virginia, their home for 53 years where they enjoyed their lives and raised their son Mark. In 2013 they relocated to Parker, Colorado to be close to family. Delmar enjoyed fishing on his boat in tidewater Maryland, camping in the Shenandoah Mountains, the beach, and traveling on family vacations. Delmar was known by all as a kind, generous, devoted man who loved his family. He in turn was dearly loved and will be greatly missed.
