Delores Worley

November 16, 1935 — June 15, 2011

Delores Worley, 75, fell asleep in death on Wednesday, June 15, 2011 in Aurora, Colorado. A memorial service for her will begin at 1:00 P.M., Tuesday June 28, 2011, at Swanson's Funeral home in Flint, Michigan. Delores will be interred at River Rest Cemetery in Flint. Delores was born to Harry and Myrtle Decuir in New Iberia, Louisiana on November 16, 1935. After marriage to her first husband, Donald Sparrow, Sr., she became a resident of Flint, Michigan, remaining for 55 years. She was a pleasant, disciplined, tried-and-true, but tough woman who chose a vocation dedicated to helping others as a nurse. Delores was also one of the first students of African-American or Creole descent to integrate Southwestern Louisiana Institute, now known as University of Louisiana, Lafayette, enduring the difficulties of that tender and historical era. Delores leaves behind a host of friends and relatives, including an aunt, Mary Charles (Obey), a brother, Harry Decuir (Lisa), a sister, Nella Dyes (Moses), and her four children, André Maria Sparrow Stone (James) of Aurora, CO, Donald Sparrow, Jr. of Flint, MI, Sharme Sparrow Ridley of Peachtree City, GA, and Joseph Sparrow (Carla) of Cresson, TX. Delores also leaves seven grandchildren, Shanna Stone Jackson, Sydney Stone Fausset (Jerome), Jeffery Darden, Sharme ""Ria"" Ridley, Nicholas Ridley, Josiah Sparrow, and Micah Sparrow and four great-grand children, Aiyana and Daryus Jackson and Lyric and Harmony Fausset. We already miss her. Delores was preceded in death by her parents, Harry DeCuir and Myrtle Smith-Watts, husband Floyd Worley, and siblings Joyce Veal, Robert Decuir, Charles Decuir, Diane Asberry and Myrtle Francis.
